CALL TO ORDER:
The regular meeting of the Civil Service Commission was called to order by
Chairperson Catherine Adams on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at 3:05 p.m., in the
Liquor Control Commission Conference Room, Mo'ikeha Building, Lihue, Kauai.
ROLL CALL:
Ms. Suzanne Aguiar
Ms. Lam Aranio
Mr. Ryan de la Pena
Mr. Gilbert Maerina
Mr. Roy Morita
Ms. Ann Sokei was absent and excused.
Others: Ms. Verna Bacarro, Civil Service Secretary
Mr. Thomas Takatsuki, Personnel Services Manager
Mr. Marc Guyot, Deputy County Attorney
APPROVAL OF AGENDA:
On motion of Mr. de la Pena, seconded by Ms. Aguiar, the Agenda was approved as
circulated. The motion was carried unanimously. Chairperson Adams confirmed with staff that
Mayor Carvalho will be available to meet with the Commission at the June meeting to discuss
concerns regarding the evaluation process.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
On motion of Ms. Aranio, seconded by Mr. de la Pena, the Minutes of April 20,
2010 was approved. The motion was carried unanimously.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
None
CORRESPONDENCE:
Chairperson Adams acknowledged the receipt of communication dated May 6, 2010
regarding Mr. John W. Herring.
EXECUTIVE SESSION:
At 3:15 p.m., Chairperson Adams called for an executive session on motion of Mr.
Maerina, seconded by Mr. de la Pena, and carried unanimously, to consult with Deputy County
Attorney Guyot.
OPEN MEETING:
At 3:30 p.m., Chairperson Adams called for an open meeting on motion of Mr. Maerina,
seconded by Ms. Aranio. The motion was carried unanimously.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
There was no Director's report.
NEXT MEETING:
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at 3:00 p.m.
ADJOURNED:
There being no further business to come before the Commission, on motion of
Mr. de la Pena, seconded by Ms. Aranio, the meeting was adjourned at 3:50 p.m. The motion
was carried unanimously.
