Two suspects were apprehended and initially charged. The subsequent investigation that included the interview of several other witnesses identified the (24 year old) shooter and resulted in the accomplice to cooperate . The weapon believed utilized in the murder was recovered. The suspect remains confined at the Kauai Community Correction Center. Attempted Murder !I Two attempted Murder !I investigations were investigated. The first involved a couple, the 41 year old male reported that his 35 year old girlfriend intentionally ran him down with her car after he attempted to walk away from their argument . He suffered serious injuries but is expected to recover. The second incident of Attempted Murder !I involved a 39 year old female who attacked a 49 year old male with a machete . After suffering minor injuries the victim disarmed the suspect . While initiating a complaint with Police dispatch at a pay phone the suspect attempted to run the victim over on two separate occasions. He was transported by Ambulance to Wilcox Hospital Emergency room where he was diagnosed with a broken wrist . He was released after treatment . The suspect was subsequently apprehended after fleeing the scene and charged. The suspects were arraigned and bound over for trial and await trial at the Kauai Community Correction Center. Sexual Assaults There were three sexual assault complaints in the month of December. in all cases there was a delay in reporting which precluded the opportunity to do a Forensic Examination to gather evidence. In the first case there were two juvenile female victims, 12 and 16 years of age. Each reported that they were sexually assaulted by their 55 year old Step-Father. Suspect denied allegation and the investigation was been referred to the Prosecutor office for hopeful charging. A second Sexual Assault complaint of was reported by a 16 year old girl who accused her 16 year old boyfriend forced to engage in sexual intercourse. The incident occurred several months prior to its initial disclosure to Police. Unattended Death Detectives investigated three unattended Deaths. in two of the cases it was determined that the men ages 57 and 80 year old died as the result of suicide . An 87 year old woman died in an accidental house fire. Fire Department investigators determined it was caused by faulty wiring. Detective' s investigation revealed no suspicious circumstance and concurs with findings . Burglaries An Eleele couple reported that they were burglarized and that a Safe was removed from the residence containing $10, 000 . 00 . investigation revealed that daughter responsible and has left the State. Charges are pending her apprehension. A Kapaa Burglary suspect was apprehended and found in possession of counterfeit money. Further investigation resulted in the subsequent execution of a search warrant on his residence where more counterfeit money was discovered and seized. Detectives received the assistance of the United States Secret Services . A new business owner reported that one of the (three) partners that sold him the business burglarized the shop and took over $10, 000 . 00 worth ✓of tools .
