Support Clerk Mercedes Omo; Deputy County Attorney Sinclair Salas- Ferguson Also present: YWCA Executive Assistant /Human Resource Jamie Bucao and Kauai Violence Coalition Representative Patricia Wistinghausen. Excused Chair Virginia Beck and Vice Chair Jenai Hart Absent SUBJECT DISCUSSION ACTION Call To Order Ms. Lasker called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. with five (5) members present constituting a quorum. Approval of Regular Open Session Minutes of June 15, 2016. Ms. Ignacio - Neumiller moved to approve Minutes the meeting minutes of June 15, 2016. Ms. Martinez seconded the motion. Motion carried 5:0. Election of Ms. Ignacio - Neumiller nominated Wendy Martinez to the position of Secretary. Ms. Ignacio - Neumiller moved to elect Secretary Ms. Martinez accepted the nomination. Ms. Lasker called for a motion. Wendy Martinez to the position of Secretary for the remainder of the year. After the vote, the members welcomed Wendy Martinez to the committee. Ms. Valente seconded the motion. The motion carried 5:0 CSW 2016 -07 Discussion and decision - making on having a showing of the film "Miss South Ms. Ignacio - Neumiller moved to defer Pacific ". item CSW 2016 -07 to the October meeting. Ms. Valente seconded the Ms. Lasker stated that with the absence of Chair Beck it would be a good idea, if motion. The motion carried 5:0 the members agree, to defer the matter to the October meeting, hearing no objections, Ms. Lasker called for a motion to defer. Committee on the Status of Women Regular Open Session Minutes of September 21, 2016 SUBJECT DISCUSSION ACTION CSW 2016 -09 Discussion and decision - making on a screening of the film "Equal means Equal ". Ms. Ignacio - Neumiller introduced YWCA Executive Assistant /Human Resources Jamie Bucao to the committee. Ms. Bucao stated that based on the success of the first screening which was held at the Waimea Theater in August, the YWCA thought it would be a good idea to have a second screening, only this time in a more central area and more time to plan. The YWCA was able to get backing from other organizations across the community. She stated that the film is a documentary from filmmaker Kamala Lopez, and it covers a broad spectrum of women's issues highlighting areas of inequality including domestic violence, contraception, incarceration, the gender wage gap, and sex - trafficking just to name a few. It also discusses the weakness of current laws and the historical difficulties in passing of The Equal Rights Amendment. Ms. Bucao stated that the next screening will take place on Friday, October 21" at the Kauai Community College Performing Arts Center in Puhi, Kauai. The doors will open at 6:00 p.m. The screening will be followed by an advocate panelist discussion featuring Kauai Prosecuting Attorney Justin Kollar, Major General (Ret) Mary Kay Hertog, U.S. Representative Tulsi Gabbard (tentative), YWCA of Kauai Prevention Educator Snow Carapetyan, and YWCA Executive Director Renae Hamilton. Ms. Bucao added that the YWCA of Kauai will be hosting a Purple Sale of gentle used handbags before and after the screening to help raise funds for their domestic violence programs inconjuction with the Allstate Foundation 2016 Purple Purse Campaign. She shared that it's inspiring to know that various organizations in the community are coming together help bring awareness to domestic violence issues as well as financially empower domestic violence victims within the community. With no further comments or questions, Ms. Lasker called for a motion to co- Ms. Ignacio - Neumiller moved that the sponsor the event. Committee on the Status of Women lend their support to the YWCA in its second showing of the film "Equal Means Equal ", as volunteers and will authorize the use of the County's official logo for the publicity needs. Ms. Crowell seconded the motion. The motion carried 5:0. CSW 2016 -10 Discussion and decision - making on drafting a resolution that supports the principles of eliminating all forms of discrimination against women and working with the Council for its passage. Ms. Lasker stated that given the complexity of the task, and as a suggestion perhaps the committee could form a two - member subcommittee and include Lisa Ellen Smith to help draft the resolution. Ms. Crowell stated that she would contact Lisa Ellen Smith to see if she could Ms. Ignacio - Neumiller moved that Ms. help with preparing a draft resolution for review and possible approval at the next Crowell work with Ms. Smith on meeting. Committee on the Status of Women Regular Open Session Minutes of September 21, 2016 SUBJECT DISCUSSION ACTION CSW 2016 -11 Discussion and decision - making on allocating funds in the FY 2016/2017 Budget for all upcoming Committee events. After the discussion, the Committee came up with the following allocations for each event: • 2 Drug Court Graduation Ceremonies - $100.00 for refreshments ($50.00 for each event) • Career Day Event - $500.00 down payment for venue; $347.00 for promotional items. • March Women's History Month - $375.00 to cover the sign permit fee, cost to rent venue and refreshments.) • April's Walk A Mile /Mayoral Equal Day Proclamation - $0 • September Health Fair - $50.00 for refreshments • October "Paint the Town Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Mini - Walk" - $100.00 for refreshments. The event is set for Wednesday, October 26th at the Mo'ikeha Building (Rotunda). Warm -ups by Fitness Instructor Bev Brody starts at 11:15 a.m. Ms. Lasker will contact the American Cancer Society to provide healthcare materials at the event.
