HomeMy WebLinkAbout5.155 ENGINEERING AID II 19770726DEPARTMENT OF PERSONNEL SERVICES COUNTY OF KAUAI ENGINEERING AID II Duties Summary: 5.155 Performs work primarily as a rodman or rear chainman; does construction inspection work; and performs other related duties as required. Distinguishing Characteristics: This class differs from that of Engineering Aid I in that the Engineering Aid 11 performs work predominately of rodman and rear chainman; whereas, the Engineering Aid I performs manual work in- v.ol-v.ed in field surveying such as clearing lines, marking and driving stares and learns the operation of surveying instruments and may serve as a rodman or rear chainman for the purpose of training. This class differs from that of Engineering Aid III in that the Engineering Aid II primarily serves as rodman or rear chainman and mey operate a level as an incidental assignment or for the purpose of learning; whereas, the Engineering Aid III operates the level on a field survey party or works as a head chainman as a regular ,as:s i gnment. Exz-mpies of Duties: X, Acts as a rodman by holding level or stadia rod; acts as chainman ti,y using tape, plumb bob and markers; marks and stakes out grades; mse.sures distances; takes cross sections; keeps and reduces field - n:o-tes; makes simple computations and assists in checking computations a•f others; may assist in collecting soil and material samples; assists in gathering, reporting and compiling hydrologic data such as tunnel, spring and artesian well discharges; does routine tracing and plotting; va••y do simple drawings and tracings; may operate a level or transit as am incidental assignment or for the purpose of learning; may perform clerical work in an engineering office; may assist in performing inspectional work in highway and other public works construction :projects. Wrnimum Qualification Requirements for the Class: Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to a high school education with courses in mathematics and one year of experience in field surveying. Knowledge of: the standard terminology, techniques, practices and equipment used in engineering surveying; mathematics. Ability to: learn the use of surveying instruments and equip- ment; make computations; prepare and reduce field notes; inspect construction projects; perform physical sight tests of construction ENGINEERING AID II -z- materials; read and interpret plans and specifications; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; get along well with others. — Health and Physical Condition: Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for performance of the duties: This is an amendment to the specification for the class, ENGINEERING AID II, which was approved on March 19, 1958, and is to be substituted for that specification. flPt''R0V D )gte7 .24 e/77 (Da e) HERBERT T.
