Di- stinguishinq Characteristics: This class differs from that of Engineering Aid II in that the En-gineering Aid III primarily operates the level on a field survey p.a-rty or works as a head chainman; whereas, the Engineering Aid 11 .primarily performs work as a rodman or chainman and may operate a Level for the purpose of training. This class differs from that of Engineering Aid IV in that the En -gineering Aid III operates a level or works as head chainman as a pr-i--mary duty; whereas, the Engineering Aid IV operates a transit as a .primary assignment and may supervise a survey party on routine field survey work. : *aTr.D I es of Duties: Operates a level in field survey work; serves as head chainman; - reduces field level notes and plots location surveys, profile and s-e.-ction notes; calculates distances, angles, closures, and areas and s:i-Trple curve problems; computes earthwork quantities; takes cross - s- eztions, grades and slopes; may perform as a transitman as an incidental assignment for the purpose of learning; assists in -erecting triangulation station; performs engineering inspection such as inspecting and measuring construction materials delivered or laid _I-n place and collecting simple material samples for testing; occasionally uses drafting instruments and may prepare and trace high- way construction drawings showing plan, profile, cross — sections, drainage structures and other pertinent construction features; checks water readings, computations and prepares hydrographs; may be assigned to .do clerical work in an engineering office; keeps records and makes reports as directed;.may drive a car or a field truck.
