Distinquishinq Characteristics: This class differs from that of Drafting zid in that the engineering Drafting Technician I makes scaled drawings and tracings from rough sketches or preliminary plans according to specific instructions, reduces and plots levelling notes, and draws profiles and cross -sec- tions; whereas, the Drafting __id duplicates tracings of plans and maps or revises drawings prepared by other draftsmen under close supervision_. Examples of Duties: Prepares drawings by following designs:.and sketches prepared by the engineers; reduces or enlarges scaled drawings; prepares and traces highway construction drawing showing profile, cross - sections, drainage structures, and other pertinent construction features; corrects exist- ing maps following instructions; assists in filing maps and records; makes map compilation requiring some mathematical computations and adjustments; plots in ink on finished maps such details as symbols and locations of pole lines, railroad lines, highway systems, and bridges; may plot field notes of surveys and :Hake finished drawings and tracings for record or reproduction; may compute earthwork quantities and pre pare mass diagrams for the purpose of learning; may occasionally serve as a member of a survey party. Iinimum Qualification Requirements for the Class: Experience and Traininq: (1) One year of full -time experience in drafting work and graduation from high school with courses in mathema- tics and mechanical drat ,,, -ing; or (2) any equivalent combination of experience and training. Knowledqe of: Algebra, geometry, and plane trigonometry; nomen- clature and conventional symbols of drafting; drafting techniques; general sources of engineering information. Abilit-v to: Make mathematical calculations with care and accuracy; make drawings and tracings accurately and neatly to specified scales using standard drafting instruments; use drafting instruments and calculating machines; do free -hand lettering and sketching; use ENGINEERING DRAFTING TECHNICIAN I 2. logarithmic and trigonometric tables; give and receive both oral and written instructions. 4ealth and Physical Condition: - ersons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for performance of the duties.
