PLANNING DRAFTING TECHNICIAN I 5.215
Duties Summary:
Prepares tracings and working and preliminary sketches and drawings;:makes
mathematical computations; and performs other related duties as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This class differs from Planning Drafting Technician II in that the
Planning Drafting Technician I prepares tricings'and• preliminary plans and maps and
assists in the preparation of finished plans under the close supervision of the
Planning Drafting Technician II; whereas, the Planning Drafting Technician iI
performs skilled drafting, graphic design, and illustrating work in connection
with planning programs.
Examples of Duties:
Plots existing structures, utilities and property subdivisions on working
maps from survey data, maps of records and plans; revises maps and tracings to
conform with new data; performs tracing, inking and lettering of maps and
drawings where accuracy and neatness are required; makes engineering computa-
tions following established formulae; makes calculations and computation in
connection with preparation for zoning maps, plans and drawings; assists in
maintaining drafting equipment; assists in filing maps, records and plans; may
prepare final drawings and traciAsa from survey data and working drawings under
supervision; may make field investigations to obtain supplementary data.
Minimum Qualification Requirements for the Class:
Experience and Training: A combination of education and experience sub-
stantially equivalent to graduation from high school with courses in mathemat-
ics and two years of drafting experience.
Knowledge of: Nomenclature and conventional symbols of drafting; mathe-
matics including plane geometry; general sources of public planning data and
information.
--'.Ability to: Do drafting, graphic design and illustration work; prepare
neat and accurate maps, plans and other drawings to specified scales; make
mathematical computations; collect, compile and assimilate data; understand
oral and written instructions; deal tactfully and effectively with others.

PLANNING DRAFTING TECHNICIAN I
Health and Physical Condition:
Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the
health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for per-
formance of the duties.
This is an amendment to specification for the class, ASSISTANT PLANNING
DRAFTSMAN, which was approved on June 18, 1965, and is to be substituted
for that specification.
