HomeMy WebLinkAbout5.225 PLANNING DRAFTING TECHNICIAN III 19761207DEPARTMENT OF PERSONNEL SERVICES COUNTY OF KAUAI Li hue, Kauai, Hawaii PLANNING DRAFTING TECHNICIAN III 5.225 Duties Summar Supervises and coordinates drafting and cartographic work in- volving the preparation of detailed maps and plans in connection with county planning projects; coordinates drafting functions with plans design and development to insure compliance with project timetables; and performs other related duties as required. Distinguishing Characteristics: This class differs from the Planning Drafting Technician iI in that the Planning Drafting Technician III supervises and coordinates drafting work and assumes overall technical responsibility for drafting activities in the Planning Department; whereas,-the Planning Crafting Technician II prepares skilled drafting, graphic design, and illustration work in connection with a planning program. Examples of Duties: Flans, assigns, coordinates and reviews the work of subordinate drafting technicians engaged in the preparation of various plans and maps in .connection with county planning projects; participates with professional planners in analyzing new or major planning projects to determine and discuss drafting requirements and needs for the projects; provides technical advice and consultation to planners and others on matters pertaining to drafting; performs the most complex drafting work; coordinates drafting work with planning pro- jects in progress for adherence to completion and cost schedules; provides general instructions on scope, objectives, time limitations and priorities of drafting projects; advises subordinates when sig- nificant deviations from standard drafting and cartographic principles are required; coordinates work internally, adjusting operations as necessary to meet special needs; reviews drafting and cartographic wo.r'k for adequacy, accuracy and completeness and conformance with established standards, project requirements and policies; discusses with project planners possible need for improvement or modification in drawing or design procedures; develops and maintains progress and assignment charts and controls on work in progress; estimates time and cost for new projects; supervises the filing and custody of all priginal tracings of maps and plans, and the reproduction of maps, plans and other materials; may develop and implement training programs for subordinates; keeps informed on new techniques and equipment in the drafting field; recommends acquisition of new equipment; prepares activity and other reports as required. Minimum Qualification Requirements for the Class: Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school with courses in mathematics and mechanical drawing and six years -2- F1110ING DRAFTING TECHNICIAN III 5.225 o ` .,&;,afti ng experience, two of which shall have involved planning dr^ :i ng work representative of the next lower level. - :':nowledge of: principles and practices of supervision; nomen- 0 0,vore, conventional symbols, methods, principles, practices and in- truments used in engineering drafting and mapping; mathematics, i nal.udi ng plane trigonometry, particularly as applied to the com- put,-,,tion of distances, quantities, angles, areas and traverses in the .reduction of survey notes and in the development of maps, plans anei i6escriptions; sources of information on public planning. Ability to: plan and supervise the work of subordinates; coor- din.a, drafting function with plans development activities; advise pl �:nners and others on the technical aspects of drafti rlg; estimate sccgxe and requirements of drafting and cartographic projects; review wri --k. o, subordinates for accuracy, completeness and conformance wi,h- p-roject requirements and other standards; develop and implement in - -:- rvice training programs for subordinates; understand and carry ou`, oral and written instructions; prepare activity and other reports; dez7` --1�ffecti vely with others.
