REAL PROPERTY DRAFTING TECHNICIAN I 5.231
Duties Summary:
Performs skilled cartographic drafting work of average
difficulty and complexity; makes mathematical computations;
analyzes and interprets moderately complex documents; and performs
other related duties as required.
Distinciuishinct Characteristics:
This class differs from the Real Property Drafting
Technician II in that it performs skilled drafting work of average
difficulty and complexity; and analyzes and interprets moderately
complex land documents; whereas, the Real Property Drafting
Technician II independently performs highly skilled and difficult
work encompassing the full range and variety of cartographic
drafting assignments.
Examules of Duties:
Prepares tracings and drawings manually or with CAD
systems from rough sketches according to general instructions and
established standards; works from basic layouts, digital maps,
preliminary plans, sketches, land documents, and general
instructions and prepares or revises maps, plans and drawings;
drafts changes on maps in accordance with instructions noted on
land transfer documents which have been reviewed and abstracted by
supervisor; analyzes and interprets land transactions documents to
determine changes that should be made to tax map records and
digital maps, such as changes in boundaries, land area, dimension,
location and ownership; following land predetermined scale, plots
new subdivisions from sources such as' file plans, land court maps,
descriptions, deeds, etc., and performs related computation;
retraces worn tax maps; may conduct title searches in files, legal
documents and records, maps, etc, of other agencies or departments;
;makes reports of changes; plots center lines, topography, property
and right -of -way boundaries, etc.; makes related computations of
distances, angles, curves, areas and etc.; reduces or enlarges maps
and plans; and reviews and verifies accuracy of land boundaries,
data, areas, ownership of property.
Minimum Oualificatign Recruirements for the Class:
Training and Experience: A combination of education and
experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school
with courses in mathematics and mechanical drawing and three years
of drafting experience one of which shall have been in land map,
engineering, or construction drafting work.

License Requirement: Possession of an appropriate valid
Hawaii State driver's license as required.
Knowledaes of: mathematics, including plane
trigonometry; nomenclature and conventional symbols of drafting
practices, techniques, instruments and equipment; general sources
of information and procedures, practices and policies relating to
the area of assignment.
Ability to: prepare maps, plans, drawings and tracings to
specified scale neatly and accurately from rough sketches,
preliminary designs, or written description; make mathematical
computations using logarithmic, trigonometric and circular curve
calculation; do freehand lettering and sketching; follow oral and
written instructions; deal tactfully and effectively with the
general public and others.
Health and Physical Condition:
Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class
must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed
necessary and proper for performance of the duties.
