REAL PROPERTY DRAFTING TECHNICIAN II 5.232
Duties Summary:
Performs highly skilled and difficult cartographic
drafting work encompassing the full range and variety of drafting
assignments; makes difficult mathematical computations; and
performs other related duties as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This class differs from that of the Real Property
Drafting Technician I in that it performs highly skilled and
difficult work requiring a high level of skill, cartographic
knowledge and familiarity of land transaction documents; whereas
the Real Property Drafting Technician I performs skilled drafting
work of average difficulty and complexity and analyzes and
interprets moderately complex land documents.
Examples of Duties:
Prepares finished plans, maps and ink tracings involving
considerable details and features and where a high degree of
accuracy and drafting skill are required; operates CAD system;
independently carries out assignments requiring significant
judgment, initiative and originality; works from basic layouts,
preliminary plans, sketches, land documents, and general
instructions and prepares or revises maps, plans and drawings;
drafts changes on tax maps in accordance with instructions noted on
land transfer documents; analyzes and interprets land transaction
documents that require additional research and independent
judgement to determine changes that should be made to tax maps
records, such as changes in boundaries, land area, dimensions,
location and ownership; plots new subdivision from sources such as
file plans, land court maps, descriptions, deeds, etc., and
performs related computation; retraces worn tax maps; conduct title
searches in files, legal documents and records, maps, etc. of other
agencies or departments; plots center lines, topography, cross -
sections, profiles, property and right -of -way boundaries, etc.;
reduces and checks field survey notes and plots data on worksheets;
makes related computations of distances, angles, curves areas,
etc.; reduces or enlarges maps and plans; reviews and verifies
accuracy of land boundaries, data, areas, ownership of property,
etc. and plots such data onto record maps and plans; provides
information to the general public and explains matters pertinent to
the area of assignment.

Minimum Qualification Requirements for the Class:
Training and Experience: A combination of education and
experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school
with courses in mathematics and mechanical drawing and four years
of drafting experience two of which shall have been in land map,
engineering, or construction drafting work.
License Requirement: Possession of an appropriate valid
Hawaii State driver's license as required.
Knowledges of: mathematics, including plane
trigonometry; nomenclature and conventional symbols of drafting
practices, techniques, instruments and equipment; general sources
of information and procedures, practices and policies relating to
the area of assignment.
Ability to: prepare maps, plans, drawings and tracings to
required scale accurately and neatly from field notes, rough
sketches or preliminary designs; make mathematical computations
using logarithmic, trigonometric and curve data tables; do freehand
lettering and sketching; interpret maps, plans, descriptions and
written materials and explain pertinent data thereon to others;
follow oral and written instructions; deal tactfully and
effectively with the general public and others.
Health and Physical Condition:
Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class
must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed
necessary and proper for performance of the duties.

This is the first specification for the new class, REAL
PROPERTY DRAFTING TECHNICIAN II.
