HomeMy WebLinkAbout6.302 DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INTERVENTION COORDINATOR 20000329DEPARTMENT OF PERSONNEL SERVICES COUNTY OF KAUAI DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INTERVENTION COORDINATOR 6.302 Duties Summarv: Performs a variety of coordinative tasks in support of departmental activities involving program services for victims and /or witnesses of domestic violence, and facilitates investigations as part of an intervention program. Distinauishina Characteristics: This class is distinguished by its responsibilities for coordination of a domestic violence intervention program for the County of Kauai, including assisting in investigations, training, and providing referral services to victims and /or witnesses of domestic violence. Examples of Duties: Coordinates fulfilling the needs of domestic violence victims /witnesses by providing immediate referral information about appropriate and available governmental and community resources; may conduct office or field interviews to secure information concerning the personal history and social situations of individuals and /or families involved in domestic violence cases; coordinates continued and conclusive domestic violence investigations among patrol personnel; prepares case records and ensures that necessary reports are completed and available to the prosecutor and court system; responds to major domestic violence incidents upon request of police personnel; confers and assists victims with services available through the justice system; advise victim of domestic violence of court appearance and requirements; may accompany victim /witness of domestic violence to court; coordinates prompt domestic violence investigations between patrol personnel from different watches for continuity and completeness; reviews reports of domestic violence to complete investigations; assists victims /witnesses to secure emergency housing, counseling, and in obtaining temporary restraining orders or medical services as required; may conduct roll -call and in- service training; coordinates cross - training with other service providers; participates in developing and planning of program requirements to ensure adequate victim care and successful prosecution; maintains case file, records, and data concerning domestic violence cases; prepares correspondence, reports, and other documents; maintains cooperative working relationships with other governmental and community agencies or institutions. t\ DOMESTIC VIOLENCE 2 6.302 INTERVENTION COORDINATOR Minimum Qualification Requirements for the Class: Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school, and five years of experience providing support services to social workers, counselors, or other professional workers in recognized intervention programs, some of which involved investigative work relative to the enforcement of laws, ordinances, and /or rules and regulations. License Requirement: Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license. Knowledge of: principles and techniques of investigation applicable to the work involved; pertinent laws and ordinances; various social, psychological, economic, and emotional factors influencing the behavior and attitudes of individuals; rules of legal evidence and laws of arrest; court procedures; functions and jurisdiction of enforcement agencies; report writing; laws, rules, and ordinances governing disclosure of information; governmental and community resources pertaining to domestic abuse and family violence. Ability to: communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including speaking to groups and individuals; collect, evaluate, and interpret facts and recommend courses of action; analyze situations and people accurately and implement approved course of action; maintain an objective and emotionally stable attitude in meeting distressing situations; work within constant time constraints and deadlines; answer questions and provide general information and /or direct queries to appropriate personnel; deal effectively with other employees and the public. Health and Physical Condition Requirements: Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for performance of the class. This is an amendment to the specification for the class ' DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INTERVENTION COORDINATOR, which was approved on December 15, 1997, and is to be substituted for that specification.
