Duties Summary
-'-' Assists skilled carpenters in' the performance of duties-involved

Distinguishing Characteristics-.
This is the entry level class in the Carpentry series. This
class differs from that of the Carpenter in that the Carpenter Helper
works',=urider the supervision of skilled carpenters and,;per:forms a variety
of - manuai tasks-'incidental to the work. of carpenters cad independently
performs routine carpentry tasks requiring 'the application of the basic
elements of the trade° whereas, the Carpenter performs skilled rough and
finished work in the construction, alteration and repair of all types
of wooden articles and. structures and may supervise the _work. of , carpen-
ter_helper.s .
Eka_mp]'es of Duties
Assists skilled carpenters in laying out, cutting, fitting,
joining and nailing, screwing or doweling lumber to construct wooden
articles and structures; cuts large tinber for beams, stringers, railingz
or flooring for the construction or repair of wooden bridges; sands and
Q.leans a variety of wooden articles by hand or machine in preparation
for painting; installs wire -mesh screen in doors, windows and panel
screen frames; dismantles buildings using harmer or pinch bar; pulls
nails and salvages lumber; uses various hand tools such as cross -cut
and rip saw3, planes, chisels, and brace and bits; operates woodworking
machinery such as planers, joiners, disc and belt sanders, and other
power tools.
Mdnimum Qualification Requirements for the Class!
Training; and Experience: A corubination of education and
experience substantially equivalent to completion of the eighth grade
and one year of experience as an apprentice or helper under a journey-
man carpenter.
Knowledge of: common practices, tools, materials and equipment
used in the carpentry trade; occupational hazards and safety precautions
of the trade.
