HomeMy WebLinkAbout8.560 FIELD AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE WORKER 199202284t DEPARTMENT OF PERSONNEL SERVICES COUNTY OF KAUAI FIELD AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE WORKER 8.560 Duties Summary: Lubricates and services a variety of gasoline and diesel - powered mobile and mechanical equipment in the field; and performs other related duties as required. Distinguishing Characteristics: This class is distinguished from other Mechanical and Automotive Repair classes in that the Field Automotive Service Worker lubricates and services a variety of gasoline and diesel - powered mobile mechanical equipment in the field as a substantially full -time assignment; whereas, Mechanics perform skilled work in repairing automotive equipment, including major overhaul, tuning engines and trouble shooting. Examnles of Duties: Operates and maintains a service truck with a gross vehicular weight of 22,000 lbs.; maintains supply of lubricants, oils, gasoline, materials, equipment and tools on service truck; schedules and maintains lubrication plan; lubricates various county equipment in the field including light and heavy gasoline and /or diesel - powered automotive and other mobile mechanical equipment; fills equipment with gasoline, fuel oil, lubricating oil, water and air as necessary; cleans oil filters; checks and fills master brake cylinders with oil; changes tires; cleans spark plugs; changes batteries; checks equipment to ascertain condition of equipment and need for repair and /or maintenance work; submits recommendations and reports for immediate and future repair requirements of equipment; makes minor maintenance repairs; makes weekly deliveries of fuel to the Kawaihau district. Minimum Oualification Recruirements for the Class: Training and Experience: Experience and /or training of sufficient scope and quality to competently perform journeyman level duties and responsibilities of this position. License Requirement: Possession of the appropriate Commercial Driver's License and applicable endorsements; current State of Hawaii Department of Transportation Medical Examiner's Certificate and any other license required by law. x FIELD AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE WORKER -2- 8.560 Knowledge of: common practices, tools, materials and equipment used in lubricating gasoline and /or diesel - powered mechanical equipment; the occupational hazards and precautionary measures applicable to the trade. Ability to: schedule and maintain lubrications periodically; operate motorized equipment; make minor mechanical repairs; keep daily written record of work accomplished; understand and follow oral and written instructions. Health and Phvsical Condition Requirements: Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for performance of the duties. This is an amendment to the specification approved for the class, FIELD AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE WORKER, which was approved on September 24, 1974, and is to be substituted for that specification.
