TRUCK DRIVER
Duties Summary:
Operates and maintains a truck and attachments with a factory -
rated capacity of at least 11,� but less than 5 tons or a tank truck of
less than 1200- gallon capacity as a regular, primary assignment in
transporting a variety of cargo; and performs other related duties as
required.
Distinauishina Characteristics:
This class differs from the class Heavy Truck Driver in that the
Truck Driver operates and maintains a truck and attachments with a
factory -rated capacity of at least 11-� but less than 5 tons or a tank
truck of less than 1200- gallons capacity; whereas, the Heavy Truck
Driver operates and maintains a truck and attachments with a factory -
rated capacity of 5 tons and over or a tank truck with a capacity of
1200 gallons and over.
Examples of Duties:
Hauls dirt, gravel, rock, sand, rubbish and other materials;
operates tank truck which is used for watering landscaped areas,
poisoning weeds or bush or applying bitumuls to pavement; transports
personnel to and from work sites; operates or runs equipment attached
or mounted to trucks; greases and replenishes fuel, oil, and water;
cuts grass and branches, cleans storm drains and cleans debris from
highways and other areas; loads and unloads truck; may supervise
others in loading or unloading trucks; may collect and replace bins at
sites, and haul filled containers to the transfer stations or
landfills and empties containers; may keep records of areas watered or
sprayed with poison; may supervise helpers engaged in collecting
refuse.
Minimum Qualification Requirements for the Class:
Training and Experience: A combination of training and experience
substantially equivalent to one year of experience involving the
operation of motorized equipment.
License Requirement: Possession of a valid motor vehicle
operator's license.
Knowledge of: methods of operating motorized equipment
representative of this class; the capacity and use of motorized
equipment representative of this class; laws, ordinances, rules and

regulations governing the operation of motor vehicles on streets and
highways; hazards and safety precautions in operating motorized
equipment; maintains needs of the equipment.
Ability to: operate motorized equipment representative of this
class skillfully and safely; understand and observe traffic laws and
rules; make minor and emergency repair to the equipment; observe
mechanical defects and take steps to have them corrected; understand
and follow oral and written instruction.
Health and Physical Condition Requirements:
Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet
the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and
proper for performance of the duties.

This is an amendment to the specification for the class TRUCK
DRIVER which was approved on October 26, 1973, and amended on
February 20, 1981, and is to be substituted for that
specification.
