GREENSKEEPING CREW LEADER 8.968
Duties Summarv:
Supervises and participates in greenskeeping
activities to preserve grounds and turf of the County's
golf course; serves as crew leader and may perform a
variety of skilled and semi - skilled golf course maintenance
and construction tasks; and performs other related duties
as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
Under the general supervision of higher level staff,
this class serves as a working supervisor in maintenance
and construction activities and operations of the County
golf course. A position in this class is given general
instruction as to procedures to be followed and the results
expected.
This class is also responsible for directing and
assisting greenskeeping workers engaged in the maintenance
and repair of related mechanical equipment on a day -to -day
basis, and may assist workers to perform more critical
duties.
Examples of Duties:
Supervises and performs aspects of golf course
maintenance and repair such as sodding, landscaping,
watering, fertilizing, mowing and trimming, as well as new
greens, tees and fairways construction from blueprints and
sketches; plans and assigns work of a greenskeeping crew;
supervises, instructs and participates in changing greens
cups and tee markers performs skilled work in installation
of irrigation pipelines and hardware for proper functioning
of the system; aerifies greens and tees, and cleans and
maintains ditches, ponds, clubhouse and surrounding areas;
assists with diagnosis and location of problem areas due to
irrigation system malfunctions; assists in the operation of
equipment, including mowers, loaders and a variety of hand
and power tools; oversees and ensures the proper operation
of trucks and maintenance equipment, including tractors,
loaders, mowers and other golf course equipment; operates a

motor vehicle to transport crew and material to and from
work sites; prepares written work reports; attends meetings
and training as required.
Minimum Qualification Requirements for the Class:
Training and Experience: A combination of education
and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from
high school and five (5) years of experience in the care
and maintenance of grounds and landscaped areas of which
two (2) years shall have been in golf course maintenance,
construction and landscaping, including experience in the
repair, maintenance and installation of pipelines and
hardware of an irrigation system and repairs on automotive
and /or mechanical equipment.
License Requirement: Possession of a valid motor
vehicle operator's license as applicable to the position.
Knowledge of: current golf course maintenance and
construction practices and procedures; golf course
equipment and irrigation systems; the game of golf as it
affects golf course maintenance work.
Ability to: operate equipment and tools used in the
maintenance of a golf course; plan and assign work to
others; communicate effectively with others, both orally
and in writing; understand and follow oral and /or written
policies, procedures and instructions; prepare and present
accurate and reliable reports; install and repair
irrigation pipelines and hardware; repair mechanical
equipment.
Health and Physical Condition Requirements:
Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class
must meet the health and physical condition standards
deemed necessary and proper for performance of the duties.
This is and amendment to the specification for the
class GREENSKEEPING CREW LEADER approved August 21,
2006, and is to be substituted fore that specification.
