FROM : BRAD AKANA, KAUAI DOCARE TA EAST DISTRICT SUPERVISOR
SUBJECT : COMMENDATION
Aloha Fire Chief Westerman,
On Tuesday May 02, 2017, Kauai County Lifeguard David Duncan reported an
abandoned lay/gill type net in the surf approximately 300 yards off Salt Pond Beach
County Park. Our investigation revealed that the net was probably abandoned for about
three days because of high surf and strong winds, and it contained live and dead sea
life.
Kauai County Lifeguards David Duncan and Kainoa Numazawa were
instrumental in assisting our Officers in recovering the net, and freeing the sea life.
Because of their knowledge and expertise it made our job easier and safer.
The Kauai Division of Conservation and Resource Enforcement (DOCARE)
would like to acknowledge and commend these two Kauai County Lifeguards for their
cooperation and dedication in keeping Kauai safe.

Subject: Appreciation
Dear Robert,
My wife and I were recently rescued from the Makeleha trail when the stream became flooded and dangerous
within minutes. I wanted to email you directly to say thank you and let you know the amazing and silent work
of the men (heroes) you employ.
Captain Musa (prob wrong spelling) and his team Maui, Cisco, & Jason ..... we will forever be indebted to these
men and their bravery for allowing us to safely get back to our new family.
We will never forget these men and will forever be grateful.
Is there a place we can donate $ to ensure your department continues to receive the resources needed to do the
amazing job you guys do every day?
Sincerly,
