On May 25th this year my wife Lynne and I were enjoying our first visit to Hawaii. We were there to attend a nephew's wedding. We stopped at PoJpu to do some snorkeling. Within a few minutes I was dead in the water. No pulse, no breathing. Later, tests showed no heart attack and no stroke. Perhaps it was a bronchospasm. Within moments one of your well trained, avert, and dedicated guards hauled me out of the water and began resuscitation efforts. He was joined by three others who worked with him in tandem. I'm told that after a time some in the crowd turned away saying, "He's gone". What those peop;e didn't consider was the determination of those four men. I owe them my life. I can't put into words the gratitude I feel. These men and the organization that trains them ask nothing and call it, "All in a days work'. It's so much more. Lynne still has me to love as do my children, my grandchildren and all of my family and friends. And I still have time to love them. Perhaps some day you too wil+ walk right up to the edge without knowing it and someone will haul you back. Maybe you'll remember me and think, "So this is how he felt". I thought that as the day faded into the past I would let it go. Oddly enough I'm thinking more about it, knowing that each breath is a gift willed to me by perfect strangers on an island state for from home. Thank you, everyone, ,' Kauai Hospice *4f 0 jj,606az "a 4 cat,, July 10, 2017 Fire Chief Robert Westerman Kauai Fire Department Pi'ikoi Building 4444 Rice Street, Suite 315 Lihu'e Hawaii, 96766 Aloha Chief Westerman: On behalf of Kauai Hospice, I would like to thank you for the outstanding volunteer assistance provided again this year for the 28th Annual Concert in the Sky! Bo Domingcil gave countless hours of time and labor and Sol Konoho with his senior leadership, helped to inspire others to give. They were both very generous, professional, and organized. All of the other firefighters who donated their time were incredibly helpful. I especially want to thank you Chief Westerman for your presence and labor you provided in preparation for the event. As I'm told, `the leader sets the tone' and I am grateful for your leadership. There is absolutely no way possible that Kauai Hospice could produce this event without your support and the labor of the Kaua'i Firefighters and the Hawaii Firefighter's Association — thank you so much for making our 28th Annual Concert in the Sky a creat success.
