News Release
For Immediate Release: January 17, 2017
Water shutdown scheduled for Hanamaulu area on Thursday, Jan. 19
HANAMAULU – The Department of Water (DOW) has scheduled a 9-hour water shutdown for the
Hanamaulu area on Thursday, Jan. 19, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. Affected customers are
located on Aikepa Street, Anai Street, Amo Street, Hanamaulu Road (from Amo Street to the end of the
road), Hehi Road, and Hipa Road.
Water will be turned off to allow a contractor, Earthworks Pacific Inc., for the Hooluana at Kohea Loa
development to connect new waterlines to the DOW’s existing system.
To prepare for the water shutdown, affected customers are advised to take the following steps:
Store enough water to meet your needs during the shutdown.
Notify family, fr iends and neighbors that may be affected by the shutdown.
Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that water heaters do not empty during the
shutdown.
Drive cautiously through the work area and use alternate routes if possible.
Stay tuned to radio ne ws reports or monitor www.facebook.com/KauaiDOW for any updates
or changes.
After the connection is completed and the water main is turned back on, air may be mixed
into the water causing it to appear white or milky in color. This is normal and the air in the
water will eventually dissipate.
After the connection has been completed and the water main is turned back on, it is also possible
that existing sediment in the line could get stirred up. This is common after an interruption in
service. If this happens, the water will appear brown in color and should be flushed out through
an outside hose bib until the water is clear.
The DOW will notify affected customers door-to-door on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
For more information please call Earthworks Pacific Inc. at 246 -8808 or the DOW at 245 -5455.
