News Release
For Immediate Release: May 12, 2017
Water shutdown scheduled for Kalaheo area on Monday, May 15
KALAHEO – The Department of Water (DOW) has scheduled a 4-hour water shutdown for Kalaheo
customers located on Papalina Road, between Maka Road and the mauka-side of Puu Road, including
Texeira Tract. The shutdown will occur from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, May 15, weather permitting.
Water will be turned off to allow the DOW to make repairs to a 2-inch waterline.
To prepare for the water shutdown, affected customers are advised of the following:
Store enough water to meet your needs during the shutdown.
Notify family, friends and neighbors that may be affected by the shutdown.
Those wi th faulty water heaters should ensure that water heaters do not empty during the
shutdown.
Stay tuned to radio news reports or monitor www.facebook.com/KauaiDOW for any updates
or changes to the shutdown.
When the water main is turned back on, air may be mixed into the water causing it to appear
white or milky in color. This is normal and the air in the water will eventually dissipate.
When the water main is turned back on, it is also possible that existing sediment in the line
could get stirred up. This is common after an interruption in service. If this happens, the water
may appear discolored and should be flushed out through an outside hose bib until the water is
clear.
Affected customers have been notified through door -to-door notices, Friday . To view a map of the
affected area, visit www.facebook.com/KauaiDOW or visit the DOW’s office in Lihue.
For more information, call the DOW at 245-5455.
