News Release For Immediate Release: July 10, 2017 DOW reminds Hanamaulu residents of water shutdown and conservation request scheduled for July 11 HANAMAULU – The Department of Water (DOW) reminds Hanamaulu residents of the scheduled water shutdown on Tuesday, July 11 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday, July 12; weather permitting. The shutdown will affect Hanamaulu customers located on Hehi Road, Hipa Road and along a portion of Kuhio Highway; mauka -side near Laukona Street. All other Hanamaulu customers are advised to limit water consumption to essential uses only . Essential water uses include cooking, bathing and toilet flushing. Water conservation measures include refraining from car washing, turning off automatic sprinkler systems and outdoor irrigation and using water wisely both indoors and outdoors. To prepare for the shutdown, affected customers are advised to take the following steps:  Store enough water to meet your needs during the shutdown.  Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that water heaters do not empty during the shutdown.  After the water main is turned back on, air and or existing sediment may be mixed into the water causing it to appear white or discolored. This is normal, and if it occurs, customers may flush water out through an outside hose bib until the water is clear. The DOW will provide a trailer -mounted water tank with potable water located on Hanamaulu Road, near King Kaumualii Elementary School. Customers will need to bring their own water containers. The overnight water shutdown will allow private contractor, Earthworks Pacific, Inc. to tie in a new control valve to the area’s water tank.
