Water shutdown scheduled for Kilauea area on September 13
KILAUEA – The Department of Water (DOW) announces an 8-hour water shutdown scheduled for Kilauea
customers located on Kauapea Road, Mihi Road, Makana Ano Place, Pali Momi Place, Iwalani Lane, Kahili
Quarry Road, Titcomb Street, Kanikele Street, including customers located on private connecting roads and
on a portion of Kilauea Road, from Keneke Street to the Kilauea Lighthouse. Water will be turned off on
Wednesday, September 13, 2017 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., September 14, 2017, weather permitting.
The overnight water shutdown will allow private contractor, Kaiwa Construction, Inc. to tie-in water lines
to the existing system.
In preparation for the water shutdown, affected customers are advised to take the following steps:
Store enough water to meet your needs during the overnight shutdown.
Notify family, friends and neighbors that may be affected by the shutdown.
Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that water heaters do not empty during the
shutdown.
After the water main is turned back on, air and or existing sediment may be mixed into the
water causing it to appear white or discolored. This is normal, and if it occurs, customers may
flush water out through an outside hose bib until the water is clear.

The DOW wil l provide 2 trailer -mounted water tanks with potable water for essential water needs
during the scheduled shutdown. The trailer -mounted water tanks will be located on Kilauea Road;
one near Kilauea Park and the other will be located near Iwalani Lane. Cust omers will need to bring
their own water containers.
An e lectronic message board will be posted in the affected area to notify and remind customers of
the shutdown. A Connect CTY message will also be sent to affected customers via phone call, text
