DOW reminds Kilauea customers of water shutdown scheduled for Sept 13
KILAUEA – The Department of Water (DOW) reminds Kilauea customers of the scheduled water
shutdown on Wednesday, Sept. 13 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 14, weather permitting.
Water will be turned off to Kilauea customers located on Kauapea Road, Mihi Roa d, Makana Ano
Place, Pali Momi Place, Iwalani Lane, Kahili Quarry Road, Titcomb Street, and Kanikele Street in
addition to customers located on private connecting roads and along a portion of Kilauea Road from
Keneke Street to the Kilauea Lighthouse. A detailed map of the affected area in Kilauea can be
viewed online at www.kauaiwater.org or by visiting the DOW’s Lihue office.
In preparation for the water shutdown, affected customers are advised to take the following steps:
Store enough water to meet your needs during the overnight shutdown.
Notify family, friends and neighbors that may be affected by the shutdown.
Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that water heaters do not empty during the
shutdown.
After the water main is turned back on, air and or existing sediment may be mixed into the
water causing it to appear white or discolored. This is normal, and if it occurs, customers may
flush water out through an outside hose bib until the water is clear.

The DOW will provide two trailer-mounted water tanks with potable water for essential water needs
during the scheduled shutdown. The trailer -mounted water tanks will be located on Kilauea Road;
one near Kilauea Park and the other will be located near Iwalani Lane. Customers will need to bring
their own water containers.
The overnight water shutdown will allow private contractor, Kaiwa Construction, Inc. to tie-in water lines
to the existing system.
