Water shutdown scheduled for Kalepa Village Apartment residents on October 18
HANAMAULU – The County of Kauai has scheduled an 8-hour water shutdown for customers located in the
Kalepa Village Apartments on Kalepa Circle and Kale Place in Hanamaulu on Wednesday, October 18, 2017
from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting.
The scheduled water shutdown is necessary to allow County of Kauai crews to repair and install a back flow
preventer that was damaged in a recent vehicular crash. Motorists and pedestrians are asked to proceed
near the work area with caution and adhere to all safety and traffic signs in place.
During the scheduled water outage, the Department of Water (DOW) advises Kalepa Village residents to
take the following steps:
Store enough water to meet your needs during the shutdown.
Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that water heaters do not empty during the
shutdown.
Notify family, friends and neighbors that may be affected by the shutdown.
After the water main is turned back on, air and or existing sediment may be mixed into the water
causing it to appear white or discolored. This is normal, and if it occurs, customers may flush water
out through an outside hose bib until the water is clear.

The DOW is providing a trailer-mounted water tank to residents for essential water needs during the
shutdown. The trailer-mounted water tank will be located in the parking lot near the Kalepa Village
Apartments’ management office. Customers will need to bring their own containers.
Affected customers are being notified by property management.
For more information, please call the Department of Water at 245-5461, Mon-Fri from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. To report service issues after-hours, please call Police Dispatch at 241-1711.
