Managing Director KAUA'I EMERGENCY MANAGEMEMENT AGENCY News Release For Immediate Release: November 1, 2017 ELTON USHIO, ADMINISTRATOR Tel (808) 241-1800 Fax (808) 241-1860 Flash Flood Warning issued for Kaua‘i: Hanalei School, Green Waste Services and Kalalau Trail closed The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Kaua‘i due to heavy rains occurring over the islands. The warning may be extended, dropped or modified as conditions develop. The Department of Education (DOE) has announced that Hanalei Elementary School is closed today. The state Department of Land and Natural Resources has closed the Kalalau Trail until further notice. Green waste services at all transfer stations across the island are closed, including white goods, tires and scrap metal collections at the Hanapepe transfer station. No road closures have yet been reported at this time. However, the Hanalei River gage showed a rise in the water level with the potential for flooding along Kūhiō Highway near the Hanalei Bridge. Please stay tuned to local media for updates on road closures. A Flash Flood Warning means flash flooding is imminent or occurring in streams, roads and low-lying areas. Do not cross fast-flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot. Ponding, low visibility and other hazardous driving conditions are expected.
