Managing Director DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE News Release January 26, 2017 KEN SHIMONISHI, DIRECTOR Tel (808) 241-4200 Fax (808) 241-6529 Real property taxes are due soon LĪHU‘E – County officials would like to remind Kaua‘i property owners that the second installment of real property taxes for the 2016-2017 tax year are due on Feb. 20. Payments can be made online at www.kauai.gov/paypropertytax, by mail, in person, or at a drop box located outside the Kapulē Building at the Līhu‘e Civic Center. Checks should be made payable to the Director of Finance. Property tax bills were recently mailed to all owners on record or their respective mortgage institutions. Property owners who pay their real property taxes directly and have not yet received their property tax bills should inquire at the Real Property Tax Collection office at the Līhu‘e Civic Center, Kapulē Building, 4444 Rice Street, Suite 463, or call 241-4272. Failure to pay real property taxes by the due date will result in a 10-percent penalty, as well as 12-percent interest per year. As stated in the Kaua‘i County Code, Section 5A-1.18, when the due date for any remittance or document required by any ordinance imposing a tax falls on a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday, the remittance or document shall not be due until the next succeeding day, which is not a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday. Therefore, taxpayers will be able to pay their real property taxes on Tuesday, Feb. 21 without incurring any penalty.
