Nominations accepted for Outstanding Older American awards
LĪHU‘E – The public is invited to submit nominations for the 2017 Outstanding Male and
Female Older American awards.
The goal of the program is to pay tribute to adults 65 and older who have made
exceptional contributions to their community through service and/or special projects.
Nomination forms are available at the Agency on Elderly Affairs (AEA), Monday to
Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The AEA is located at the Līhu‘e Civic Center, Pi‘ikoi Building,
Suite 330.
The deadline to submit a nomination is Tuesday, Feb. 28.
All nominees will be honored at an awards ceremony in May. The 2017 Outstanding
Male and Female Older Americans will be announced at this event. Those selected will
represent Kaua‘i at a ceremony held on O‘ahu in June.
Earlier this month, the Administration on Aging announced the theme for this year’s
Older American’s Month, ‘Age Out Loud’, which is celebrated in May.
“The theme provides aging with a new voice, one that truly reflects the lifestyle of today’s
older adults,” said Kealoha Takahashi, Executive on Aging. “More than ever before, older
Americans are working longer, trying new things, and engaging in their communities. They are
taking charge, striving for wellness, focusing on independence, and advocating for themselves
and others.”
For more information, please call the AEA at 241-4470.
