Rotunda Rally aims to raise awareness on community issues
LĪHU‘E – Life’s Choices Kaua‘i and other community organizations will host a Rotunda
Rally next week to raise awareness about alcohol addiction, child abuse and neglect, and
sexual assault.
The event is open to the public, and attendees are asked to wear blue as a symbol of
their support for this community effort.
The event will be held on Monday, April 3, starting at 12 p.m. at the Līhu‘e Civic Center,
Mo‘ikeha rotunda in recognition of April being National Alcohol Awareness Month, National
Child Abuse Prevention Month and Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.
Prevention and treatment information will be available, and light refreshments will be
served.
Participants in the united effort include the Hawai‘i State Department of Health, Kaua‘i
Children’s Justice Center, Kaua‘i Police Department, YWCA of Kaua‘i and the Zonta Club of
Kaua‘i and Hanalei.
“In the spirit of breaking down silos, we believe that we can make a difference in the
lives of young children and their families by supporting each other,” said Theresa Koki, Life
Choices Kaua‘i coordinator. “Our community partners have committed to work collaboratively on
the challenges faced by our families and to look for opportunities that affect change on the
social conditions that bring about those challenges.”
Other events and activities planned for April to raise awareness about community issues
include the following:
Parent-Child Fair – Saturday, April 8, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Kukui Grove Center.
National Denim Day – Thursday, April 26.
Alcohol Sticker Shock campaign – Friday, April 28, various locations. Contact Maile
