Managing Director DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS News Release May 1, 2017 LYLE TABATA, ACTING COUNTY ENGINEER Tel (808) 241-4996 Fax (808) 241-6604 Puhi Metals Recycling Center to implement fees for commercial accounts Residential recycling remains free of charge PUHI – The public is advised that effective Monday, May 15, the Puhi Metals Recycling Center (PMRC) vendor will begin charging commercial haulers for metals and large/bulky eWaste recyclables. Please note that commercial haulers include state and federal agencies as well as nonprofits. Residential recycling remains free of charge. The implementation of fees will allow Resource Recovery Solutions to maintain its operations on Kaua‘i. “We would like to thank all of our customers for their years of support that have kept millions of pounds of valuable resources out of the Kekaha Landfill,” said Ryan Evans, Resource Recovery Solutions manager. “Unfortunately, we are on an island in the middle of the Pacific, and while our costs have risen, metals and other commodity prices have not.” The new fee schedule is posted at the PMRC and on the county’s website, www.kauai.gov/metalrecycling. Anyone with questions can contact the PMRC at 245-6919.
