Senior Corps Week celebrated May 15-19
LĪHU‘E – Every year during Senior Corps Week, the extraordinary impact that Senior
Corps volunteers make across the nation is celebrated. This year, Senior Corps Week takes
place from May 15 to May 19.
More than 1,600 seniors in Hawai‘i aged 55 and better contribute their time and talents
through Senior Corps programs.
Here on Kaua‘i, Senior Corp impacts our community through Foster Grandparents who
mentor and tutor students and through RSVP volunteers who provide services to improve
education, improve the environment, promote and support healthy lifestyles, increase economic
opportunity and support veterans and military families.
Donna Olivas-Kaohi, Kaua‘i RSVP program coordinator said, “The Kauai community is
greatly impacted through the generosity of time and talent provided by our Senior Corps
volunteers. In turn, the lives of these kupuna are enriched by this experience. They’re more
positive and healthier and they live longer. I encourage anyone who’s interested in the program
to please give us a cal.”
Over 300 seniors serve as RSVP volunteers throughout the Garden Isle helping
organizations to fulfill their missions including: AARP; Department of Veterans Affairs Kaua‘i
Community-based Outpatient Clinic; Kaua‘i Adult Day Health; Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity;
