Visitor falls off Koke‘e trail, sustains minor injuries
KOKE‘E – A 24-year-old woman from Tucson, AZ sustained minor injuries after falling
off the Waimea Canyon Trail Saturday afternoon.
The woman had been looking over the edge of a cliff at about 12:09 p.m. when she
slipped and fell approximately 25 feet.
An eyewitness contacted authorities, and provided them with satellite coordinates of the
victim’s location.
Truck 7 and Medic 20 responded to Porter’s Landing Zone, while Rescue 3 aboard Air 1
was dispatched to the scene. Upon their arrival, the rescue specialists found the victim on the
side of a steep cliff hanging onto two small boulders. They rescued the victim, secured her with
strops and short-hauled her across the canyon to Porter’s Landing Zone.
From there, the victim was turned over to the care of Medic 20 and Truck 7, and was
checked for injuries. With minor abrasions on her knees, elbows, and hands, she refused further
treatment, and was released at the scene.
