County to host community meeting on drug addiction
KAPA'A – The Mayor’s Advisory Committee for Treatment and Community Integration will
host “Drug Addiction 101,” a community meeting at Kapa'a Missionary Church on Tuesday,
August 15, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Nick Clarke of the McKenna Recovery Center will be the guest speaker and talk about
gaining sobriety and how family can get involved with treatment.
“We are uniting as a community and as one big 'ohana to provide resources and support
for those who are dealing with alcoholism and addiction in their families,” said Brian Kohatsu,
Chair for the Mayor's Advisory Committee on Treatment and Community Integration. “Our hope
is to begin the healing process within our community one family at a time.”
The meeting will also feature a panel of community members who are currently in recovery
to provide testimony and personal insight about their journey to recovery.
Following the presentation, members of the community may participate in roundtable
discussions in smaller groups to determine individual concerns. Supportive agencies will also be
on site to answer questions and provide resource information.
If you need an ASL Interpreter, materials in an alternate format, or other auxiliary aid
support, please contact Maile Murray at 241-4926 or mmurray@kauai.gov before the event.
