10 P.M. UPDATE: Flash Flood Warning extended until midnight;
Kūhiō Highway at Hanalei Bridge remains closed
LĪHU‘E – The National Weather Service has extended the Flash Flood Warning for Kaua‘i
until midnight, Tuesday. The warning may be extended, dropped or modified as conditions
develop.
Kūhiō Highway, in the vicinity of the Hanalei Bridge, remains closed until further notice as
water levels have not fully receded from the area.
Officials continue to report heavy ponding, low visibility and other hazardous driving
conditions across the island. Motorists are advised to drive with extreme caution.
Hanalei Elementary School remains open as an American Red Cross emergency shelter.
Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative continues to work on restoring power to localized
outages throughout the island.
Personnel from the state Department of Transportation continue to respond to a downed
tree over Kūhiō Highway at Lumaha‘i, and are directing traffic in the area.
A Flash Flood Warning means flash flooding is imminent or occurring in streams, roads
and low-lying areas. Do not cross fast-flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot.
