Multiple agencies search for missing California man
HAENA – Police, firefighters, personnel from the Ocean Safety Bureau and Coast Guard
are searching for a missing California man in waters off Ha‘ena.
A 46-year-old California man was last seen on Thursday around noon snorkeling
towards the open ocean at Makua Beach in Hā‘ena.
He was reported missing to police Thursday night – after he did not return from
snorkeling.
Police and firefighters from the Hanalei station worked with the Coast Guard to conduct
a search of Makua Beach and the surrounding area, while Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 conducted an
aerial search of the shoreline. Jet Ski 1 and the Coast Guard are also searching offshore.
Police do not suspect foul play in the man’s disappearance.
He is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen
wearing dark board shorts and a long sleeve gray rash guard.
Anyone with information on the man’s possible whereabouts is urged to call Kaua‘i
police at 241-1711 or Lt. Kenneth Cummings at 241-1686.
