Managing Director KAUA‘I POLICE DEPARTMENT News Release For Immediate Release: September 15, 2017 DARRYL PERRY, CHIEF Tel (808) 241-1600 Fax (808) 241-1604 Multiple agencies search for missing California man HAENA – Police, firefighters, personnel from the Ocean Safety Bureau and Coast Guard are searching for a missing California man in waters off Ha‘ena. A 46-year-old California man was last seen on Thursday around noon snorkeling towards the open ocean at Makua Beach in Hā‘ena. He was reported missing to police Thursday night – after he did not return from snorkeling. Police and firefighters from the Hanalei station worked with the Coast Guard to conduct a search of Makua Beach and the surrounding area, while Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 conducted an aerial search of the shoreline. Jet Ski 1 and the Coast Guard are also searching offshore. Police do not suspect foul play in the man’s disappearance. He is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing dark board shorts and a long sleeve gray rash guard. Anyone with information on the man’s possible whereabouts is urged to call Kaua‘i police at 241-1711 or Lt. Kenneth Cummings at 241-1686. ###
