Managing Director KAUA‘I POLICE DEPARTMENT News Release For Immediate Release: September 23, 2017 DARRYL PERRY, CHIEF Tel (808) 241-1600 Fax (808) 241-1604 Kapa‘a woman arrested following assault LĪHU‘E – Police arrested a 20-year-old Kapa‘a woman after she assaulted a Kaua‘i Bus driver at Kukui Grove Shopping Center Friday night. The victim, a 50-year-old woman of Anahola, suffered injuries to her face and was treated at the scene by medics. According to a preliminary police report, the suspect, Brandie McCarthy was attempting to ride The Kaua‘i Bus at Kukui Grove Shopping Center fronting First Hawaiian Bank, with a bottle of liquor in hand. As the bus driver was informing McCarthy that drinking alcohol was prohibited on the bus, McCarthy argued and struck the bus driver multiple times in the face. McCarthy exited the bus and was quickly stopped by police officers who happened to be near the scene. Police and medics were called to the scene at approximately 9:30 p.m. McCarthy was booked for third-degree Assault, Interference With The Operator Of A Transit Vehicle, and Prohibitions. She is currently being held at police cellblock with bail set at $1,550. The case remains under police investigation. ###
