Managing Director KAUA'I EMERGENCY MANAGEMEMENT AGENCY News Release For Immediate Release: January 21, 2017 ELTON USHIO, ADMINISTRATOR Tel (808) 241-1800 Fax (808) 241-1860 High Wind Warning and High Surf Advisory issued for County of Kaua‘i LĪHU'E – The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning effective from noon on Saturday through 6 a.m. on Sunday. A High Surf Advisory is also in effect from noon today through 6 p.m. on Sunday for all east-facing shores. Northeast trades of up to 40 MPH with gusts of up to 60 MPH are expected, with a peak in winds expected Saturday evening. High winds could result in flying debris, downed trees, downed power lines and disruption to services, such as road closures or power outages. Residents should take precautions to secure outdoor items. Strong breaking waves and dangerous rip currents are expected along all east-facing shores through Sunday evening. Beachgoers should heed all posted warnings. The public is advised to use extreme caution when engaging in outdoor activities this weekend.
