Employees of the Month recognized at Police Commission meeting
LĪHU‘E – The Kaua‘i Police Department (KPD) recognized three officers and one civilian
employee as Employees of the Month during September’s Police Commission meeting held at
the Pi‘ikoi Building.
The Administrative and Technical Bureau honored Sergeant John Mullineaux, Sergeant
Lance Okasaki, and Officer Andrew Muraoka for their outstanding community service during the
Kaua‘i Special Olympics “Cop on Top” fundraising event that was held in August. The officers
stayed on top of the Līhu‘e Walmart roof for approximately 65 hours, until $25,000 was raised
for the athletes of the Kaua‘i Special Olympics.
“These officers showcased their strong dedication to our community and stayed on the
roof soliciting donations for nearly three days,” stated Kaua‘i Police Chief Darryl Perry. “Kaua‘i
Special Olympic athletes are now equipped to travel off island and participate in various events
throughout the year.”
At the meeting, KPD’s Abandoned and Derelict Vehicle Coordinator Nancy Paliracio was
also honored for her exceptional work in servicing 170 abandoned and derelict vehicle reports in
the month of July. Of the 170 reports, 66 vehicles were towed away and properly disposed.
Paliracio was also acknowledged for her initiatives to improve KPD’s citizen complaint
process. She was able to create a new tagging system, expedite the pick-up time of tow calls,
and utilize a Mobile Data Terminal Computer in her company vehicle to generate report
numbers.
“Nancy is a hard worker and takes extreme pride in her job,” said Chief Perry. “We are
very grateful for our team of officers and employees, and thank them for their strong
commitment and volunteerism.”
