Managing Director OFFICE OF THE PROSECUTING ATTORNEY News Release For Immediate Release: October 19, 2017 JUSTIN KOLLAR, PROSECUTING ATTORNEY Tel (808) 241-1888 Fax (808) 241-1758 Prison sentence for perpetrator of child sex assaults LĪHU‘E – Prosecuting Attorney Justin F. Kollar announced that Eirik James Stevens, age 51 of Līhu‘e, was sentenced on Wednesday to serve 15 years in prison for sexually abusing a child in his apartment, and attempting to sexually assault another child in March 2016. The sentence was handed down by Fifth Circuit Court Judge Kathleen N.A. Watanabe after hearing argument from Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Keola Siu and Stevens’s court- appointed defense attorney. Stevens was sentenced in two cases involving the abuse of two different minor children. In the first case, Stevens was sentenced to serve a 10-year prison sentence on one count of Sexual Assault in the Second Degree. In the other, Stevens was sentenced to serve a five-year prison sentence on one count of Attempted Sexual Assault in the Third Degree. The State requested that the prison terms be served consecutively and the Judge agreed. Defense counsel argued for probation. “We are pleased that the Judge imposed the maximum sentence in this case and that we were able to spare the victims the trauma of further court proceedings,” stated Kollar. “We hope that this resolution will allow them to start the healing process. Our team is also grateful for the hard work of KPD investigators A.J. Morita and Christian Jenkins. Thanks in large part to their hard work, we were able to get this sexual predator out of our community.” ###
