Ragasa’s sex assault convictions affirmed by Appeals Court
LĪHU‘E – On Monday, the Hawai‘i Intermediate Court of Appeals filed a Summary
Disposition Order affirming the convictions of Larry Cass Ragasa on two counts of Sexual
Assault in the First Degree, both class A felonies, and one count of Sexual Assault in the Fourth
Degree, a misdemeanor.
Ragasa, 46, formerly of Hanapēpē, was convicted following a jury trial in March 2016, in
which testimony showed that he had sexually assaulted a juvenile. Ragasa was sentenced in
June 2016, to serve an open 20-year term of imprisonment by Fifth Circuit Judge Kathleen N.A.
Watanabe.
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Tracy J. Murakami litigated the appeal on behalf of the
State of Hawai‘i.
“We are pleased that the appellate court correctly recognized that the trial court
committed no errors in giving the defendant the fair trial he was entitled to,” stated Prosecuting
Attorney Justin F. Kollar. “Although nothing we do can ever undo the crimes this sexual predator
committed, we are satisfied that he will remain in prison where he cannot harm any more
children in our community.”
