Managing Director KAUA'I EMERGENCY MANAGEMEMENT AGENCY News Release For Immediate Release: November 1, 2017 ELTON USHIO, ADMINISTRATOR Tel (808) 241-1800 Fax (808) 241-1860 11:30 a.m. weather update: Service disruptions continue on Kaua‘i The Hanalei River Upstream gage appears to be malfunctioning, and a repair crew is being dispatched, according to the United States Geological Survey. A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect for the island of Kaua‘i. The 3 p.m. Kapa‘a Sunshine Market at the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex has been cancelled today due to conditions, and the county is receiving reports of ponding islandwide. The County of Kaua‘i is announcing the following closures and notices:  Kūhiō Highway in the vicinity of the Hanalei Bridge is closed until further notice;  The American Red Cross has opened a shelter at Hanalei Elementary School;  Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative is working to restore power in areas of the North Shore;  The Kekaha Landfill and the Kekaha HI5 Redemption Center are closed due to heavy rains and unsafe conditions;  A Brown Water Advisory has been being issued, and the Department of Health is advising the public to stay out of the water;  The Ocean Safety Bureau announced that the Kē‘ē and Hā‘ena beach lifeguard towers are closed until further notice;  Grove Farm has announced that the access road to Mahaulepu is closed until further notice;  The state Department of Education has announced that Hanalei Elementary School is closed for classes today;  The state Department of Land and Natural Resources has closed the Kalalau Trail until further notice;  Green waste services at all transfer stations across the island are closed, including white goods, tires and scrap metal collections at the Hanapepe transfer station. Heavy rains are occurring over the islands, according to the National Weather Service. The warning may be extended, dropped or modified as conditions develop. A Flash Flood Warning means flash flooding is imminent or occurring in streams, roads and low-lying areas. Do not cross fast-flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot. Ponding, low visibility and other hazardous driving conditions are expected. If you must drive, please do so with extreme caution. For updates on road conditions and closures, please call 241-1725.
