Officers seize illegal plants from Kalalau Valley
KALALAU – The Kaua‘i Police Department (KPD) participated in a two day multi-agency
operation this week that led to the removal of 15 coca plants from Kalalau Valley.
The operation was a joint effort conducted by KPD with the assistance of the state
Department of Land and Natural Resources, state Narcotics Enforcement Division, Hawai‘i
National Guard, and Maui Police Department.
“We are in an ongoing battle against drugs on our island,” said Kaua‘i Police Chief Darryl
Perry. “That’s why this week’s operation is considered a success, and I thank all partnering
agencies for their work to help prevent a dangerous and illegal drug from circulating our streets.”
Wednesday’s mission resulted in the recovery of 15 mature coca plants ranging up to 6
feet in height. The coca plant is known as the active ingredient to produce cocaine.
Law enforcement agencies also seized one pound of hash, or marijuana concentrate,
from the area.
Shown above are photos of the coca plants that were seized in a multi-agency operation
Wednesday, Dec. 6.
