Managing Director KAUA‘I POLICE DEPARTMENT News Release For Immediate Release: December 13, 2017 DARRYL PERRY, CHIEF Tel (808) 241-1600 Fax (808) 241-1604 K-PAL seeks participants for 2018 programs The Kaua‘i Police Activities League (K-PAL) is accepting registrations for its juvenile jiu- jitsu and Chess with the Chief programs. Beginning Jan. 11, 2018, juvenile jiu-jitsu classes for youth kindergarten through seventh grade will be held on Thursdays, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Classes for youth eighth grade through 12th grade will be held on Fridays, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., starting Jan. 5, 2018. All classes will be held at the K-PAL Youth Center in Kapa‘a, and instructed by members of the Kaua‘i Technical Institute. The fee to register for jiu-jitsu classes is $25. Chess with the Chief begins Jan. 13, 2018, and is scheduled to take place every second and fourth Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Kaua‘i Police Headquarters in Līhu‘e. Chess with the Chief is a free program designed to help youth ages 10 and older learn fundamentals, history, strategy and competitive play with Kaua‘i Police Chief Darryl Perry. K-PAL is a non-profit organization devoted to developing character, self-discipline and healthy lifestyles among Kaua‘i’s youth. It seeks to strengthen police-community relations. K-PAL strives to “fill playgrounds, not prisons” by providing positive activities and role models for Kaua‘i youth in hopes of encouraging good behavior and helping them reach their full potential. Additionally, K-PAL strives to create an environment which inspires Kaua‘i’s youth to maintain a drug-free life and avoid the dangerous paths associated with illegal drugs.
