Firefighters extinguish fire in Kapa‘a restaurant
KAPA‘A – Firefighters extinguished a fire that broke out Tuesday morning in the Sam’s
Ocean View Restaurant and Bar in Kapa‘a.
No injuries were reported.
Police and firefighters were dispatched to the Sam’s Ocean View Restaurant and Bar
shortly before 6:45 a.m. Police were first on scene and upon seeing smoke and flames coming
from the restaurant, they immediately evacuated people from a hostel located next door.
Crews from the Kaiākea and Kapa‘a fire stations arrived on scene shortly after and
contained the fire. The fire was confined to the restaurant’s kitchen and attic, and was fully
extinguished shortly after 8 a.m.
In addition to fire and smoke damage, firefighters reported a broken water pipe that
flooded the restaurant’s kitchen.
Fire inspectors estimate the damage to the structure and its contents to be roughly
$100,000.
During the incident, Kaua‘i police closed Kūhiō Highway for approximately 30 minutes.
Traffic was diverted until the highway was reopened at approximately 7:30 a.m.
The cause of the fire was deemed accidental.
