Electronic Plan Review in effect Feb. 1,
Public Works offers training
LĪHU‘E – The Department of Public Works has announced that starting February 1,
2018, Kaua‘i will be the first county in the state of Hawai‘i to transition to 100 percent Electronic
Plan Review (EPR) services.
To help the community with this transition, the Public Works Building Division has
scheduled a training session for the public. The training will be held on Friday, Jan. 12, from 8
a.m. to noon, at the Līhu‘e Civic Center located at 4444 Rice Street in Līhu‘e, in meeting room
2A/B of the Moikeha Building.
“I strongly support the Electronic Plan Review initiative and I am proud that our county
will be the first to fully implement this service,” stated Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. “EPR is long
overdue, and it will help us in our continual quest to provide the best possible customer service
to the people of Kaua‘i, our businesses and our visitors.”
EPR is a web-based solution that allows plans for building permits to be submitted
electronically, replacing the traditional paper-based review method. EPR will improve the plan
review cycle, reduce costs associated with obtaining building permits and development
approvals, as well as support green initiatives.
The EPR training on Jan. 12 is designed to help familiarize applicants with the EPR
process and will include an instructor-led demonstration and lecture facilitated by Superion—a
software company contracted by the county.
The training is free, but seating is limited.
To register for the EPR training or for additional assistance, please call the Public Works
Building Division at 241-4854. Additional training materials can also be found on the county’s
website www.kauai.gov/publicworks.
