Firefighters respond to house fire in Kilauea
KILAUEA – Firefighters responded to a house fire that broke out late Thursday night on
Kilauea Road in Kilauea.
Four adults were displaced as a result of the fire but no injuries were reported.
Firefighters were called to the scene at 11:22 p.m. and arrived to find the second story of
the two-story home engulfed in flames.
Personnel from the Hanalei, Kaiakea, Kapaa, and Lihue fire stations responded along
with the on-duty Battalion Chief. Volunteers with the American Red Cross also responded to the
scene.
The fire was under control by midnight but firefighters remained at the property until
approximately 1:45 a.m. to extinguish hotspots and clear the area.
While firefighters were on scene, police closed Kilauea Road from Kolo Road to Lokela
Street. The roadway was reopened at approximately 1:50 a.m.
Fire inspectors estimate the damage to the structure and its contests to be roughly
$250,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
