Kalāheo home destroyed by fire
KALAHEO – A three-bedroom home was destroyed by fire Wednesday night along
Kaumuali‘i Highway in Kalāheo.
The adult male occupant was able to safely exit the home without injury.
Kalāheo firefighters were first on scene shortly after 11 p.m. to find the single-story home
fully involved. The crew was soon joined by personnel from the Hanapēpē and Līhu‘e fire
stations, as well as the on-duty Battalion Chief.
The fire was fully extinguished just before midnight, but the home is considered a total
loss.
Fire investigators from KFD’s Fire Prevention Bureau estimate that the fire caused
roughly $200,000 in damages to the structure and its contents.
The fire appears to have started on the front porch of the home, but the cause remains
under investigation.
Volunteers with the American Red Cross are assisting the displaced man.
Police closed Kaumuali‘i Highway, from Halewili Road to Papalina Road, from 11:15
p.m. to approximately 12:30 a.m.
