Managing Director KAUA‘I POLICE DEPARTMENT News Release For Immediate Release: March 31, 2017 DARRYL PERRY, CHIEF Tel (808) 241-1600 Fax (808) 241-1604 Kūhiō Highway in Keālia closed in both directions due to traffic crash KEALIA – Kūhiō Highway remains closed in both directions, fronting St. Catherine Cemetery in Keālia, due to a two-vehicle crash. Traffic is being diverted onto Mailihuna and Kawaihau Roads until further notice. According to a preliminary report, shortly before 9 a.m., a Nissan Cube was heading southbound on Kūhiō Highway, when it crossed the center line and crashed into an oncoming delivery truck. The head-on collision has resulted in critical injuries. More details will be released as information becomes available. Traffic investigators remain at the scene to conduct a full investigation into the cause of the crash. Once the on-scene investigation is complete, both vehicles will need to be towed from the roadway and all debris will need to be cleared. An exact timeline of when the road will reopen is not yet known, but it is anticipated that this will be an extended closure of the highway. Motorists are reminded to heed the school zone speed limits along Mailihuna and Kawaihau roads. Updates will be given as information becomes available.
