KPD celebrates National Police Week, May 15-21
LĪHU'E – The Kaua‘i Police Department will participate in several ceremonies and events
next week in honor of National Police Week, May 15 – 21, 2017.
On Tuesday, May 16, a ceremony will be held at the Kaua‘i Police Headquarters
breezeway at 10:30 a.m. to recognize the state’s fallen officers. Mayor Bernard P. Carvalho Jr.
will present a proclamation to the department in honor of Police Week. The ceremony will also
include a retirement ceremony for K-9 Simon, who is retiring from duty.
The Kaua‘i County Council will present the department with a certificate of recognition at
the Historic County Building Council Chambers on Wednesday, May 17 at 1:45 p.m.
Also on May 17, the public is invited to attend an Open House at 3 p.m. at KPD
Headquarters, located at 3990 Kaana Street in Līhu‘e. Attendees will have the opportunity to
meet police officers, participate in a station tour, and learn more about the department’s daily
operations.
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th
as Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the week in which that date falls as Police Week.
Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world participate in a
number of planned events throughout the nation to honor those who have paid the ultimate
sacrifice, and to show support for their families and loved ones.
For more information on Kaua‘i’s Police Week activities, call Sgt. Anthony Morita at 241-
1697. To request an ASL Interpreter, materials in an alternate format, or other auxiliary aid
support to participate, please call 241-1697.
