Managing Director KAUA‘I POLICE DEPARTMENT News Release For Immediate Release: May 4, 2017 DARRYL PERRY, CHIEF Tel (808) 241-1600 Fax (808) 241-1604 Bicyclist hospitalized after being struck by hit-and-run driver KAPA‘A – Kaua‘i police are searching for the driver of a vehicle that struck and injured a bicyclist along in Kapa‘a on Thursday night. The incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. on Kawaihau Road, near the Bettencourt Lane intersection. A 47-year-old Kapa‘a woman was riding her bike along the westbound lane when she was struck by a vehicle that was also heading west. The crash caused the woman to hit a reflector post and land in a nearby ditch. The driver of the unknown vehicle that struck the woman did not stop to render aid. Bystanders assisted her until police, firefighters and medics arrived. She was transported to Wilcox Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Kawaihau Road was closed in both directions until approximately 8:30 p.m. while officers with KPD’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.
