Police arrest suspect in Līhu‘e bank robbery
LĪHU'E – Kaua'i police have arrested the man believed to be responsible for Thursday’s
robbery at the First Hawaiian Bank on Rice Street in Līhu‘e.
Norman K. Akana, Jr., age 42, of Hanapepe, is being held in Police Cellblock on
suspicion of Robbery.
According to police, a male subject walked into the bank at approximately 10 a.m. and
passed a note to the teller stating that he had a gun and demanded money. He then fled on foot
with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Following the robbery, KPD disseminated surveillance photos and a description of the
man at large, which helped police to identify the suspect as Norman K. Akana, Jr.
Akana, Jr. was located at a residence in Niumalu at approximately 8:20 p.m. and
remains in police custody. Bail has not yet been set as the investigation remains ongoing.
An update on this arrest is expected later today.
