Managing Director KAUA‘I POLICE DEPARTMENT News Release For Immediate Release: May 5, 2017 DARRYL PERRY, CHIEF Tel (808) 241-1600 Fax (808) 241-1604 Police make arrest in Kapahi hit-and-run KAPA‘A – Kaua‘i police have arrested a Kapa‘a woman in connection with a hit-and-run crash that occurred in Kapahi on Thursday night, which left a female bicyclist seriously injured. Blake Keller, age 23, was arrested Friday morning for first-degree Negligent Injury and Accidents Involving Serious Injury, and has since been Released Pending Investigation. Police believe that Keller was the driver of a Jeep Cherokee SUV that was traveling west on Kawaihau Road at approximately 6 p.m., when the SUV struck a woman riding a bicycle along the westbound lane near the Bettencourt Lane intersection. Keller apparently fled the scene without stopping to render aid. The crash caused the 47-year-old bicyclist to strike a reflector post before landing in a nearby ditch. The Kapa‘a woman sustained serious injuries and was initially transported to Wilcox Hospital. She has since been medevaced to Queen’s Hospital where she remains. Police are continuing their investigation of this crash. The public is reminded that all individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. ###
